Disabled People Organisation Promotion Meeting 12 June 2010, Coonoor The DPO Promotion meeting for the Nilgiris District was held on 12th June 2010 at Puthiya Puyal, a DPO at YMCA Corner, Coonoor. It was jointly organized by UDIS Forum and Puthiya Puyal DPO. At this meeting the members of the DPO Mr. Arumugam, Mrs. Mary and Mr. Ganesh were present. Mr. Surya Nagappan, Mrs. Jayashree, Mr. Ramesh and Mr. Rajkumar participated the meeting representing Caliber. There were 28 PWDs and 4 parents at this meeting. In spite of inviting around 120 PWDs over phone and through letters only less number of participants were present due to heavy rains. The meeting was inaugurated by the Coonoor Panchayat President and Vice President. Followed by the inauguration Mr. Surya Nagappan gave a detailed address on UDIS Forum network concept and answered to the queries of the participants. On behalf of the DPO, Puthiya Puyal Mr. Arumugam and Mr. Ganesh addressed the participants. Then there was an interactive session about the functioning of DPOs in other districts. The participants also expressed their suggestions and ideas. After the session it was decided that the Coonoor DPO will start to coordinate the PWDs and will explore training opportunities for them at the earliest. It was also decided that the next meeting will be conducted in the month of September and the Coonoor DPO will start the next level activities in Coonoor with the support of UDIS Forum. Mrs. Jayashree interacted with the Hearing impaired candidates and collected their opinion. Mr. Ganesh, the President of the Nilgiris Differently Abled Association proposed the Vote of thanks. ++ Top
